Debating Roleplay

The debating role play is an interactive and engaging opportunity for students to learn about the process of law-making, and experience some of the roles within Parliament. It is available for students Years 5 to 13 and works best with a class group of at least 25.

About the role play programme

Following a brief overview of how Parliament works, students visit the debating chamber before returning to the Education Centre’s mock debating chamber. Students will work together to write speeches for the debate on their chosen piece of legislation.

This programme offers a variety of experiences which cater for a range of students. This programme can be tailored to the group’s needs.

Group size

Maximum group size is 35 visitors, including adults. The programme is not suitable for groups of less than 20. Standard adult to student ratios apply.

Preparing for the role play

Once your role play has been confirmed information will be sent out to you with suggestions for how best to prepare your students for their role play before the visit. There will be a choice of mock bills for you to discuss or a subject of your choice. Resources are available online and in hard copy to support your visit.
